I know we all dont what to think about it. Especially at our sacred Bonnaroo. But ive been to bonnaroo for 5 years running, and last year opened my eyes when me and my girlfriend, wore out from the day, took a nap in our tent leaving our things in the gazebo. This nap was no longer than 30 minutes, but when my sister came back to wake me up our shit was gone. Ive gone to previous bonnaroos and never had this problems with thefts. The only problems i had was the large group of black males walking around the first day selling bunk everything (first timers will see what i mean on Thursday).
Regardless of the FANS (i.e. Metallica, Kanye West), i still think you have those people who come to bonnaroo to exploit it. Just imagine a bunch of people walking around campgrounds this year just to rob you when you leave your gazebo for a few minutes. A good percentage of these people snuck through a hole in the fence, and just paid 20 bucks to the adjoining property last year.
This year going to bonnaroo i prepare to avoid getting robbed again. I love the fest but im not driving 8 hours to lose my shit to some narcassitic punk who cant get a job because they have a heroin problem.
1. Get a lockbox ( you can do what i do. leave a majority of cash flow and take it with you, then stick it back under my seat connected to a chain so that cant be stolen). If you think thats too extreme then u should talk to the people who got their CARS broken into last year.
2. Lock your Car doors.
3. Dont leave things out EVEN IF YOUR JUST GOING TO PEE (Like i said these people hit me and my girlfriend who naively left our things in the gazebo on our way to pass out in the tent from exhaustion).
Its going to happen to you. At some point or another your gonna get wore and pass out somewhere. Err...at least for me. Just make sure you dont pass out in a bad spot.
4. Get a Lock for your Tent (But if thefts are bad as left year. And i hope and pray roo officials dont let the fence hole people in again) DONT KEEP VAUABLES in your tent. I heard many cases of tent slashing.
I just want to see everyone back on here July with a content and happy feeling that lasts all year. Because me and alot of my fellow roo brothers and sisters had a lot of festival anxiety because we lost a good amount of money or belongings.
Stay Safe. Stay Happy. Stay Fucked!!
Yikes ... This is my first time going.
I'm from Brooklyn where being aware of thieves is second nature ... but still I'm nervous about this crooks at this show. I'm going solo so I'd hate to have my car broken into or tent robbed.
You really think I should chain my crappy tent up? Or perhaps just pack it up in the morning when I'm off to the shows?
Thanks.

Camping is half the festival experience
Also, hit up your local headshop or ebay and look for Stash cans, hairspray,
Trust me, you dont want to miss out on camping!!
You really don't have alot to worry about but everything
I agree with alwaysbob.
And like that guy said above, you really don't have anything to worry about. I mean, your chances of being robbed are slim, not like lottery slim, but slim enough to help you relax while your at the greatest place on earth.
take lots of them during the shows, you'll come back to your tent and be so wide awake that you and your friends will be too loud for any thieves to even think about getting near you...
and to me a lock on your tent just screams "i have stuff to steal". lock everything
good luck
i always swear to my neighbors that if someone is lurking around their shit that doesn't belong i would see what's up. if they run chase that bitch down and hippie stomp that turd burglar.
like i said all positive vibes here but i would rather beat a crook than have a brother or sister robbed and down.
i love you all
I've been lucky so far, but yea be smart. Do not leave anythign valuable in the open. Don't leave valuables in your tent.
There are lots of people who sneak in (its not difficult.
I plan to keep all my money hidden on my person. I won't take any chances. Im taking only necessatie
making friends is a good idea. If someone is going to rob you, just a friendly hello can move them on their way. So no one even needs to confront anyone. look out for your neighbors and they will look out for you.
90% of bonnaroo attendees are laid back and cool, that remaining 10% can ruin yoru day though.
Last year when i was leaving roo late sunday night, I was camping deep, back in pussy galore, and there was a huge line of cars in front of us. We noticed a 4 wheeler driving around directing traffic another direction. So we followed. and then we came to a big hole in the fence with a couple guys standing there. And they made us pay like 10 dollars to leave. and after an expensive weekend nope of us wanted to pay, there was a huge line of cars behind us, the kid collecting money said he was the son of the property owner, Then the Dad comes over and bangs on our car and tells us to give him the money or get the f*ck out of there. We were tempted to just drive through, but a little fearful that they would chase us down on the 4 wheelers, possibly with guns, who knows in tennessee. we asked if we could give 5, and he said get the f*ck out of here and wait in line forever. so we gave 10 and drove through the hole in the fence and through a field onto a backroad that lead to the highway. down the road at a gas station there were cops directing traffic and we told them about it, but idk if they ever checked it out. Sketchy.

Some of the locals are crazy like that, some are pretty awesome. Our first year, we had a dude and his son show us a way through backroads to an entrance. They didn't even stick around to get a tip or anything. Just pointed where we should go and drove on.
Totally awesome. There was a family doing showers in '07 (probably more than that) right near the entrance for super cheap. Free 4 wheeler rides to and from the gate. They were pretty nice people too. Anyone offering money to show you a back way though, I would watch out for. They all looked sketchy and there is no guarentee they aren't just going to drive you somewhere and kill you.
Leave monday. No lines.
It's important to be aware of your surrounds no matter where you are...even
I always kept my personal things on me at all times and during the night locked them in the trunk. Depending on what you don't really want to leave out while gone, there's nothing wrong with locking that stuff up in your tent.
Definitely
Be safe and Happy 'Roo!
The most important part of the weekend is relaxing and having a good time. Lock your shit in your car. Make friends w/ neighbors.
