know theres already a top 15 bands for next year thread, but thats kind of specific and limiting. I'd also like to discuss what needs to be done to "fix" Bonnaroo.
First off, I really think Superfly needs to make amends to the jam crowd, considering that they're the heart and soul of Bonnaroo and have supported it through the years. It's not the Metallica, Kanye, or Tool fans who spend almost 300 dollars on a ticket and drive all the way across the country to attend. While it's not my scene and I personally don't have much interest in these artists, I would still love to see old time Bonnaroo veterans like Keller Williams, Gov't Mule, Trey Anastasio, John Butler Trio, etc etc make a return.
And instead of blowing a quarter of a million on some mainstream artist that the core Bonnaroo crowd doesn't give a shit about, how about you spend a couple extra dollars for some more picnic tables and maybe a nice relaxing shade tent in Centeroo?
Anyway, aside from the aforementioned Jam Band core, this would be my dream lineup:
My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain have reformed, and I would love to see them both at the Roo.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Tom Waits
Yo La Tengo
Sonic Youth
Van Morrison
Patti Smith
Television, since they're sorta back together.
While we're on the subject, whats Richard Hell up to these days?
Ween
Prince (yes, Prince.)
The Flaming Lips
The Beastie Boys (why the hell haven't they been invited yet?)
Bjork
The Animal Collective
Damo Suzuki
Acid Mothers Temple
Julian Cope
Comets on Fire
My Morning Jacket
Primal Scream
Sigur Ros, Mogwai, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Múm
Pere Ubu
R.E.M.
And if Bonaroo insists on going metal, get someone with some crossover appeal like Boris or Sunn 0)), or someone good like Motorhead.
I'd also like to see RJD2, DJ Shadow, and De La Soul return.
Maybe Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Wu Tang (don't front, yo).
I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind.
not that i dissagree with those groups you all posted, but....
keep in mind that none of us really have any idea who is asked to perform year in and year out. i would venture a guess and say that many of the staples (multiple year performers
just because we as fans want a band to perform doesnt mean that they will up and do it. some groups simply don't like to perform at festivals (pearl jam hadn't agreed to any fests in years), and some just aren't touring at the time.
so while it would be great to have this ultimate line up of bands, you have to think along the lines of who is even available to play, let alone who superfly tries to get.
i did drive 15 hours as a first time 'rooer with three other friends (also bonnaroo virgins) specifical

Redeem Themselves???? What are you talking about????? This was the best lineup Bonnaroo's EVER put out. If you didn't like it, you obviously are limited in what kind of music you like. I like all kinds of music, but I've never felt the urge to go to Bonnaroo with so many hippy bands that I've never heard of. Every year I've tried testing out the music of the top 15-20 acts and this year was by far the best IMO. Metallia was awesome.....you haters just need to recognize that they put out a great concert. If you hated them, it's probably because their music didn't suit the high you were trying to get with the drugs at the time. Pearl Jam was great, although I wish Bonnaroo didn't get them off the stage before they played some of their top hits like Jeremy and Last Kiss. Jack Johnson was great. The only big act that did a bad job was Kanye, and it's more with the way he acted than the actual performance. The performance wasn't horrible, but it wasn't worth the near hour wait. I saw a lot of really good performances from acts like Rilo Kiley, Stephen Marley, My Morning Jacket, Chromeo, Ben Folds, Alana Grace, Pat Green, The Raconteurs, Lupe Fiasco, Death Cab For Cutie, and others. I enjoyed the music the entire time, and I only hope Bonnaroo gets somewhat close to as good of a lineup next year as what they had this year. Great job Bonnaroo!!!!!
May I just point out that you say they need to redeem themselves by adding my morning jacket. uhh why would they need to redeem anything if that band just fucking played? I also want to point out that you don't want to waste a quarter of a million dollars on mainstream bands yet your list includes R.E.M and the Beastie boys whose music may not be as fresh to the scene as say tool but you dont consider them mainstream bands who may cost a little cash to have them play at roo? I mean come on.And a good amount of the bands listed either already played, played and broke up (string cheese incident for example), or like others mentioned maybe they have been offered and they didnt choose to play it! You think your the only geniuses thinking of these bands as good canidates for Roo? I dont believe Roo needs to redeem itself at all. Roo is suppose to be about the love of music. Last time i checked jam bands werent the sole definition of music, merely a part of it. If Roo wants to bring in diverse music, let them. If you dont enjoy a certain band, dont let it ruin your time. There are so many things to do each year at roo. Go to another stage/tent, to the guitar hero tent, go sing kareoke, go to the silent disco, check out the silent auction, the disco tent with the xboxs djs and light up floor, hit up the ferris wheel, the comedians, the cineama, etc. (just to name a few). Dont bitch about what superfly productions should do, enjoy roo for what it is instead of ruining it in your mind because of what you think it could be.
If we are talking a payroll like this year I would like to see
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Daft Punk
Weezer
The Flaming Lips
Raconteurs
Widespread
My Morning Jacket
STS9
Beastie Boys
The Killers
Death Cab for Cutie
Radiohead
M.I.A
Big name DJ (Tiesto!!!
Ziggy or Stephen Marley
Comedians - Flight of the Conchords,

Bonnaroo is all about the love and passion that all of us share for music. And there are SOOOooooooooo OMG effing many things to do all day long (even just chilling out at the tent with neighbors is nice) that even if there were 20 shows at Roo that you found absolutely detestable you would STILL have a great time.
It is a time to enjoy music you have always heard, to expand your musical pallet with new tastes, and share the experience with thousands of others. For many it is a celebration of all that it means to be a free, hard-working citizen in what so many consider the greatest country on the Planet!
Last I checked the Chinese, Russians, etc. etc. weren't throwing down at a 4-day festival like this! And the reason may very well be that our musicians can be as experimental as they wish to bring about new blends of harmony, melody, and percussion. I love the collaborative efforts that so many of the artists take the time to explore and I would imagine that most of you feel that same appreciation.
I would definitely be very thankful for picnic benches (great suggestion!), a few more shaded areas, and a few more cost-effective experience enhancers like that, but I felt like they put a lot of thought and energy into the festival this year and enjoyed pretty much every minute of it.
